School Dinners information

All Key Stage 1 (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) Primary School children in the UK are entitled to a free school meal at lunch time. This is called ‘Universal Infant Free School Meals’.

Here at St. Barnabas we are committed to providing our children with a healthy balanced diet. We have a standard menu of Meats, Vegetables and Jacket Potatoes and include Vegetarian Options too. All food is prepared in a nut free environment so that we can accommodate children with nut allergies. We also cater for children requiring a Gluten free and Lactose Intolerant diet.

St Barnabas School are partnered with lunchtime food supplier, Black Pepper Lunches.
 
What you need to do:
 
  • All parents and carers must register for an account with Black Pepper Lunches, regardless of whether your child is entitled to Free School Meals (FSM) or pays for school meals.
  • All meal orders must be made online via the Black Pepper Lunches portal, please contact Black Pepper Lunches if you have any difficulty registering or ordering. Telephone: 01684 891560 or email schoollunches@blackpepperlunches.com
How to register:
  1. Please visit the Black Pepper Lunches website: https://www.blackpepperlunches.com/BP-default.php
  2. Follow the instructions provided in this email to set up your new account.
  3. Once registered, you can log in, place orders for your child’s lunches and make payments.
Important: If you do not register and place orders online, we will not be able to provide your child with a school lunch. It is a Parent/Carer’s responsibility to place orders and make any changes or cancellations as school have no access to the ordering system.
 
Additional Information, please read:
-Parents/Carers and Staff are able to order well in advance or at the last minute (up to midnight the night before). Meals need to be paid for in advance via Black Pepper.
-Black Pepper’s ordering system is the same for all Parents/Carers, whether you pay for your meals or are entitled to FSM or UFSM.
-Black Pepper work on a 3 week rolling menu.
-You are able to cancel online the night before the meal is due to be provided and receive a credit on the portal.
 
The cost of a school provided meal is: £2:61 per day (from September 2025)

Free School Meals

Your child may be able to get free school meals if you get any of the following:

  • Income Support
  • income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit – if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be £7,400 or less a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)
