History Curriculum Statement
HISTORY
The study of History aims to help the children have an awareness of time and place. Our History Curriculum has been reviewed in light of the 2014 National Curriculum.
In Foundation Stage the activities concentrate on the children’s personal history, about themselves and their families. In Key Stage 1 the children look at Homes now and then, Toys now and then, The Seaside and famous events that have happened in this country long ago like The Gunpowder Plot and The Great Fire of London and people from long ago. A variety of skills are explored, looking at artefacts, investigating historical evidence to discover how people used to live, and researching information.
In Key Stage 2 activities widen from the local to national and worldwide localities. History covers both British and World units and the school looks at Local History studies e.g. The Battle of Worcester.
In both key stages History is seen as a practical ‘hands on’ subject where children can explore and learn more about the past.
