French Curriculum Statement
MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES
At St Barnabas Primary School, French is taught to all children in Key Stage 2 as part of the normal school curriculum. Our main aim is to make learning languages fun, with children learning through strategies such as games, song and role play, so they really enjoy learning a foreign language. French has been taught at St Barnabas for several years already and from September 2014 has been a statutory subject for years 2-6. It is a good idea to introduce a new language at Primary School as there tends to be less self-consciousness when speaking aloud at this stage of development. It is widely believed that the early acquisition of a foreign language facilitates the learning of other foreign languages later in life.
